How we use cookies and similar technologies on the Academia de Șah website.
The Romanian version of this document is the legally binding original. This English translation is provided for convenience only.
1. What are cookies
Cookies are small text files saved in your browser when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember your preferences and function correctly between pages.
2. Which cookies we use
a) Strictly necessary (no consent required)
These are required for the site to work and only store technical preferences, with no personally identifiable data:
- cookie_consent (localStorage): remembers your choice in the cookie banner so we don't show it on every visit.
- lang_pref (localStorage): remembers your preferred language (Romanian / English).
- Cloudflare Turnstile: the anti-spam check in the enrolment form may set a technical cookie for the duration of the check.
b) Analytics and campaign measurement (only with your consent)
We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how the site is used (pages visited, visit duration, device, traffic source) and to measure the results of our Google Ads campaigns (for example, how many campaign visits led to an enrolment). The data is aggregated and we do not use it to identify you.
- _ga: anonymous visitor identifier used to distinguish users. Duration: 2 years.
- _ga_*: keeps the state of the current session. Duration: 2 years.
- Google Ads conversion measurement cookies (e.g. _gcl_au): link an enrolment to the ad click. Duration: up to 90 days.
These cookies are enabled only after you click "Accept" in the cookie banner. Until then, through Google Consent Mode, Google tools run without setting cookies or storing identifiers. If you choose "Only necessary", no analytics data is collected.

3. Embedded content (Google Maps)
On centre pages we display embedded maps (iframe) provided by Google Maps. When you visit these pages, your browser connects to Google's servers, and Google may set its own cookies in accordance with their privacy policy.
4. Changing your choice
You can change the option you picked in the banner at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out before that.
The same button is available in the footer of every page ("Cookie settings"). You can also control and delete cookies directly in your browser settings:
Disabling strictly necessary cookies may affect the functioning of parts of the website.
